We are in Massachusetts right now. Last week I went outside and I looked overhead. About ten feet above my head leaves were swirling right above me. It was really pretty.
It reminded me of how different all the seasons are. You see back in Florida, I knew about seasons, they just weren’t real to me. I knew leaves changed colors, I mean, I’d seen pictures, but I hadn’t seen it in real life ever before. I didn’t know it was anything like this.
The first time I saw the leaves change color it was like magic. And, a year later, it was still as beautiful to me. The trees were bright yellow, dark red and some were still green. The mix of colors just made me feel bright and cheerful.
Also, down in Texas it had its own thing…
In the springtime, there are blue, pink, red, and purple wildflowers by the side of the roads and in fields. Texas is just filled with them. It’s really beautiful.
All the seasons are different in different areas of the country.
When I lived in Florida it was like I had tunnel vision. We have the whole United States, but all I was able to see was one state. Nothing else was real. When I saw pictures of the seasons in other states, okay then I knew they existed. But they don’t go into a lot of detail. And you can’t feel the places. Pictures aren’t 3D. It can show something like leaves swirling, but it’s missing most of the senses. It’s missing touch and all the wonderful smells.
Like if you’re in a forest, you can smell the trees and hear rushing water, animals and other beautiful sounds. But with a picture, you can’t interact with it. The picture might be there, but it doesn’t hold anything like what you experience when you’re out in the wilderness.
Last summer, I went to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
There was a beautiful view that you can’t capture in a photograph, even this one. It’s different when its right there in front of you. You can actually be in the space that its in and you can have the area around it, you can experience what’s there in the Grand Canyon.
When you look at a photograph, you can’t feel the wind on your face or see the birds fly by or the animals that are all around you. Like everywhere you go at the North Rim, there were chipmunks and ground squirrels (that aren’t that scared of you). All their playfulness and movements, you just can’t get that from a picture.
And now I’ve seen a lot of the USA. I can’t say I’ve seen the whole country, but that’s why I’m going to keep going. I hope I’ll see more landmarks and things that I’ve only seen in pictures. I’m ready to go to them!
Very well put. I live in Michigan and we enjoy all seasons but I can’t imagine being outside in January and not freezing. I am retired and hope to join you and others exploring this awesome country we have the privilege to call ours.
Thank you for writing! We don’t freeze, but we do need to have the heater on a lot. It got really cold and Mommy got me an electric blanket. It keeps me warm at night!
What great photos and descriptions! Your photo of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon reminded me of when I was there over 50 years ago. In my 82 years I’ve traveled through many states, but in less than 10 years you’ve been to more places than I have. You’ve also seen more seasons in different parts of the country than I have, because most of my travels were during the summer.
I’m looking forward to reading more of your colorful descriptions of new places you visit.
Love, Grandma
Thank you and I’m looking forward to seeing you again! You’re right, I do get to see a lot of different things and a lot of places and a lot of seasons. The seasons really glow!
Nice article, Camille! I love it. Yes, the season sure do keep things interesting… Happy travels!
Love,
Uncle A
Thank you! I’d love to see you again. Tell Molly I said hi!
Well written Camille! You describe things so beautifully for your age. Hope are paths cross again!
Me, too! And thank you for the compliments!
I enjoyed reading your post. I live in Oregon now and I agree with you, there is no match for being in the scene. No video or still image can give you the full experience. I hope you continue to enjoy your adventures. May you always remain as observant as you are right now!

I will and thank you! We’re planning to go to Oregon next summer. I’m looking forward to it!
Awesome post Camille! I can’t wait to show it to my family. You’re a smart young lady. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! I also read what you wrote on my mom’s comments and I’d love to meet you someday. I think your wife will LOVE being in an RV!
That was Beautiful ❤️
Thank you!
