During our wait in Hurricane, Cole and I even took a chance to visit the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park for a few nights, escaping the 110 degree desert heat. The cabins were lovely and rustic, just the way I like them. I was able to catch up on my own science fiction novel I had backburnered years ago..
I brought Cole along to enable him some private time to work on his latest project, creating a YouTube channel to document his experiences as he crosses over into a teenager! (How is THAT even possible?)
Cole has really sprouted and his voice is even changing. It’s amazing to watch him transform into a young man right before my eyes!
The North Rim is a quiet, peaceful environment where everyone appears to be happy and calm. Chairs are set up all around the veranda of the main lodge, so that you can sit, relax and enjoy the view. There’s usually a hush of awe enveloping the space.
Cole and I loved the dining experience of the Lodge. The food was delicious and the view was always amazing. They accept reservations way in advance, so the smart folks who reserved months ahead of time took the prime dinner slots. However, we didn’t mind eating at 8pm.
At night they often have various telescopes pointing up to the sky. We happened to strike it rich that weekend as the folks from Griffith Observatory were there, each with their own telescope. In addition there were various amateur astronomers. Cole branched out on his own and engaged various people in conversations, asking intelligent questions.
Cole and I were able to see Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn very clearly. In addition we witnessed various other things, like a binary star system and the aftermath of an exploding star.
Since wifi and cell coverage were nonexistent, Cole and I could focus on our projects without distraction. It was something I wish I could do more often, as I tend to be attached with a tether to my cell phone when I have a signal!
I realized that I should make time more often to work on my own projects. Rustic cabins are a perfect habitat for creativity!
