We went to the Animal Fair. The birds and beasts were there…
Okay, it was really the Houston Zoo. But we saw a beast, the Komodo Dragon. It was soooo cute! And big. Did you know that there was something called Komodo Island? It’s where Komodo Dragons come from.
They are about ten feet long and in rare occasions they can weigh up to 300 pounds. Imagine that sitting on your head!
The Komodo Dragon waits patiently and camoflauges into the greens. When prey comes, it pounces. If the prey is good enough to escape, it might feel lucky for a little bit, but it won’t feel well. The Komodo Dragon has lots of venom in its bite. Within 24 hours, you’ll see the Komodo Dragon eating dead prey.
The zoo also had an aquarium part. We found a place where you could go inside the fish tank! It was fun, but Mommy go worried because she didn’t know where we’d gone, but she just heard our muffled voices. And then when she saw us, she took a whole bunch of photos!
There was also a petting zoo. They had a whole bunch of goats, but nothing else. I pet and pet the goats!
A few days later we went to an aquarium. When we arrived we found out that there was a special tiger show starting in two minutes, so we rushed over to see it.
They were talking about taming tigers. One of the trainers put her hand up and the tiger jumped up to it. There was glass between them, of course.
I learned that how they tame a tiger is that they start by putting meat on a stick. Then they put it up and of course the tiger pounces toward the meat. Then he gets a treat. They practice that over and over again, until he gets it. Then they put up a stick with no meat, but still give them a treat. Then finally they put up their hand and the tiger jumps to it, because he knows he’ll get the treat after.
We enjoyed the rest of the afternoon at the aquarium, seeing lots of fish and petting and feeding sting rays.
